American Idol, Life (I flip you off tree! Ha!)
American Idol, aired May 5 on Fox
You can’t fault the arrangement, or the style, of any of the performances. Harry Connick, Jr. did a great job. Aaron and Casey, not so much. I predicted yesterday that Casey would be going home, but America picked my second choice.
Life, aired a few weeks ago on Discovery
Bugs are weird.

American Idol, Lost (Pseudo-Locke is not Locke)
Tuesday, May 4
American Idol, aired May 4 on Fox
DVR
Harry Conick, Jr. not only mentored the contestants, he also did the arrangements. He did a great job at it, but Aaron and Casey weren’t very good. One of them will go home today. I’ll predict Casey James.
Lost, "The Candidate," aired May 4 on ABC
DVR
If I were on the team of writers I’d have Sawyer call Pseudo-Locke “Smoky.” He’s not Locke, so why pretend?

House, The Big Bang Theory, Seventh Moon (again)
Monday, May 3
House, “The Choice,” aired May 3 on Fox
DVR
The title is about the patient’s insistence that he has chosen not to be gay; perhaps it also refers to the propositions that Taub can choose to be monogamous, and that House can choose to have friends. Possible or not?
In a storyline about a man who goes to great lengths to try to “cure” his homosexuality, it was surprising that there was not one mention of religion.
The Big Bang Theory, “The Spaghetti Catalyst,” aired May 3 on CBS
Chuck Lorre, we all love Sheldon, but please do not let The Big Bang Theory become The Sheldon Show. Why? Because that’s where the infamous shark is. You know, the one over which you don’t want to jump. You have a great ensemble here, Chuck. Use all of it.
This is another Sheldon episode, about Mr. Cooper’s inability to choose between Team Penny and Team Leonard after the breakup.
Seventh Moon (2008)
FearNet On Demand
Seventh Moon, second try. With my Sumsung television switched to Movie Mode and turned up to a brightness of 76, I was able to watch the movie instead of squinting at it. The creatures have a very creepy look, but the story was predictable. I don’t think that’s only because I remembered it from the day before.

Seventh Moon, Survivor, American Idol
Wednesday, April 28
American Idol, aired April 28 on Fox
DVR
Glen said Siobhan had an off day. The judges said she was fantastic. America voted, and agreed with...Glen.
Thursday, April 29
Survivor, aired April 29 on CBS
DVR
Russell accuses Parvati of keeping secrets, but as a fellow hypocrite, I can’t judge him.
Sunday, May 2
FearNet On Demand
If you see this movie, follow the advice of one poster at the IMDB message board and do so (a) at night, and (b) with the brightness turned way up. Sure, the audience should share the characters’ fear by seeing only as much as the characters see, but there’s no point in seeing 80% less than they see. I might as well have been listening to a radio play.

How to Train Your Dragon, etc.
(Artwork: DreamWorks)
Ordinarily each entry of this blog will cover just a day or two, but we're catching up a little bit here. Under each title I tell you when and how I watched it.
Friday April 23, FearNet On Demand
Well made, as maniac kid movies go. The cinematography, for example, is first rate, and the writing isn’t bad.
Saturday April 24 FearNet On Demand
This one has a TV movie feel: almost no gore, and no scares at all. Mildly interesting, sort of clever, but you may not think the punchline is worth the wait.
Sunday April 25, in theater, in Real D 3D
The script is as good as the animation. Highly recommended. Click the character names at IMDB to see the voice actors standing next to their alter egos.
The Daily Show, aired April 26 on Comedy Central
Tuesday April 27, DVR
Great segment on Arizona’s new immigration law. On Wednesday I submitted a sample blog entry on it to an online publication.
Update: The blog entry.
Update: The blog entry.
The Colbert Report, aired April 26 on Comedy Central
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings sound like they should. “She Ain’t a Child No More” is sung to the abusive mother of a girl who’s gotten too tough to beat.
American Idol, aired April 27 on Fox
Tuesday April 27, DVR
All six did well, with the possible exception of Siobhan. (The judges thought she was “fantastic.”)
House, “Open and Shut,” aired April 26 on Fox
April 27, 2010, DVR
A patient’s open marriage is used to explore themes of love, honesty and the fulfillment of needs; House sees Wilson’s relationship and Taub’s marriage through this prism. Great writing, full of complexity and ambiguity, as always.
